CITY OF SYLVANIA

REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

MINUTES

April 20, 2010, 6:00 P.M. 

PRESENT:  Mayor Evans

Council Members:  Beasley, Cleland, Dees, Mercer, & Smith  

 

ABSENT:  Council Member Sheppard

 

INVOCATION:  The Mayor called the meeting to order and Mayor Pro Tem Dees led in prayer and the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

 

APPROVAL OF AGENDA:  A motion was made by Mayor Pro Tem Dees and seconded by Council Member Cleland to make the following changes to the agenda:

            Add:                 Excess Electric Energy Sales

            Remove:           Approval of GA Div United Daughters of the Confederacy Proposal

All voted aye. 

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: 

MINUTES PREVIOUS MEETING:  There was a general consensus to approve the April 6, 2010 public hearing and council minutes as presented.  All voted aye.

 NEW BUSINESS:

1ST READING – FLOOD DAMAGE PREVENTION ORDINANCE:  A motion was made by Council Member Cleland and seconded by Council Member Mercer to approve the first reading of an ordinance to provide for flood damage prevention within the City of Sylvania, to provide specific standards for the prevention of floods, to provide variance procedures and enforcement mechanisms and penalties for violations.  All voted aye.

 

APPROVE CITY ATTORNEY’S BILL:  A motion was made by Council Member Smith and seconded by Council Member Cleland to approve the City Attorney’s March bill in the amount of $1,092.00.  All voted aye.

 

APPROVE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CONTRACT WITH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE:  A motion was made by Council Member Smith and seconded by Council Member Beasley to approve the economic development contract with the Chamber of Commerce to advertise, encourage and promote retail development in the City of Sylvania in the amount of $9,976 per year.  All voted aye.

 

APPROVE ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING CONTRACT WITH ELECTRIC CITIES OF GEORGIA:  A motion was made by Council Member Beasley and seconded by Council Member Mercer to approve the electrical engineering contract with Electric Cities of Georgia in the amount of $42,246 annually.  All voted aye.

 

EXCESS ELECTRIC ENERGY SALES: A motion was made by Mayor Pro Tem Dees and seconded by Council Member Cleland to allow MEAG to sale the City’s excess energy to TEA.  All voted aye.

 

ADJOURNMENT:  A motion was made by Council Member Cleland and seconded by Council Member Smith to adjourn at 6:25pm.  All voted aye.
